SOLO BIO ORIGINAL COUNTRY BLUES AND RAGTIME Born in New Orleans, raised in California, glen Delpit has been performing country blues and original works for more than 30 years. He conjures up images of music honed in counrty jukes and dusty roadside bars from parched Texas towns to the fertile farmland of the Mississippi Delta and the street corners of countless southern cities. His performances encompass the entire spectrum of country blues and brings alive the music of a Rober Johnson or the Atlanta singer Blind Willie McTell. He is also a gifted songwriter whose songs have been described as "literate and poetic, filled with social conscience, spiritual quest and Dylan styled imagery" …(Ken Robison, Fresno Bee..) and along with quietly romantic tales of broken dreams and lost loves he is able to create those rare and bittersweet moods that show his songs have been etched with the skill and care of a true poet. He has three solo albums: "Prodigal Son" on Swallow records, "Special Risin Sun" and "Turn Your Damper Down" on Dharma Brand records and tapes. He also has a pair of albums with his band, The Subterraneans, on the Dharma Brand label including "Let The Rain" and "Blue Deep, Wine Red". He was named the Contemporaries 1990 Musician of the year. As a solo artist he has opened for the late Brownie McGhee, John Lee Hooker, Katie Webster, Leon Russell, Eric Burdon, Peter Case and Jonathan Richman. With his band he has opened for the likes of Bo Diddley, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Blasters, Dave Alvin and many others. He and his band have been featured on a half hour PBS program ala Austin City Limits called Video Cafe that was broadcast over eighty stations nationwide. This past year 5 of his original songs were heard on 2 Prime Network cable shows. With a gift for choosing old gems from the likes of Willie McTell or "Rabbit" Brown, combined with great original songs he has forged new traditions while at the same time keeping alive the spirit of the traditional country blues.
