STATEMENT

For many years I have been working to establish a world through my art in which my experiences (musical, historical, socio-political) can live and make their own sort of logic. I seek connections between the past and present (time and space) using the mediums of collage, assemblage, paint, objects found and sussurations of poetry. The work can and should be enigmatic, mysterious, ambiguous and crystal clear all in the same moment-like dreaming- and if epiphanies are found here they are grounded in myth and dream. Indeed this current work (actually all my work) is based upon a single dream I had one minute before seeing a painting of Dantes Inferno by Dr. Edward Souchon on the street in New Orleans in 1954.

The paintings are all from an extended series entitled The Secret History of America. There is a roadmap for this work underneath the backseat of your car. You can find the code by losing the remote control to your tv. In the words of Kenneth Patchen... I charge you by the religion of poetry and art not to sneer at some things which may seem strange to you, for I have burnt no house but my own and nobody will force you to warm yourself at its heat.
